UNICEF Vaccination emoji PROPOSAL

In February 2020, UNICEF has sent a proposal to UNICODE, requesting the addition of a VACCINE to the emoji character set. The work collaboration between UNICEF Brand team and Development and Global Campaigns team, we believed that while the current syringe emoji has “vaccine” and “immunization” as keywords, the image itself depicts the drawing of blood, rather than the giving of medicine. This seemed to promote a negative image of vaccination when confidence in this critical medical intervention is being called into question globally.
